9 Hazards New Teen Drivers Are Taught To Avoid at Drivers Ed

At 911 Driving School, we offer drivers ed for teens that teaches your new driver hazards you can find on the road. We teach your teen how to avoid these hazards. If your teen happens to come across a driving hazard, we want to make sure we prepare them for it. Here are nine driving hazards we can teach your teen about:

1. Bad Weather Conditions and Driving

Bad weather can be a hazardous condition while driving. Each state has different severe weather, and because of this, our instructors teach each student about all possible conditions. We can teach your teen how to safely combat driving in snow, heavy rain, ice, fog, and other dangerous conditions. Bad weather is not always a condition that your teen can avoid completely. You can rest easy knowing that our instructors have taught them various ways to drive safely in these situations.

2. Substances and Driving

Driving while under the influence can be a major hazard for your teen to avoid. Our instructors are first responders and police officers. They can teach your students the legal consequences of driving while intoxicated. Alcohol or drugs while driving are hazardous to your student and those around them. Our drivers ed for teens focuses on this issue as it can be detrimental.

3. Distractions and Driving

Your teen can experience many different distractions while driving. We help them avoid distractions such as using their cell phones, eating, drinking, etc. Any distractions that lead your teen to not pay attention to their driving can be hazardous. To help our instructors teach your teen a safer way of driving, limit your teen’s distractions while driving. Distractions and driving can be a hazardous combination that affects the driver and those around them.

4. Lane Changes While Driving

For seasoned drivers, lane changes may seem simple, but to new drivers, they can be a hazard. Signaling to change lanes or checking your blind spot can help your teen avoid dangerous situations. Some vehicles have blind-spot monitors, but if they break or your teen does not have a vehicle with this function, it is key to learn how to safely change lanes without it. Our instructors also teach your teen the right time to change lanes and where they aren’t allowed to change lanes. Proper lane changes can help keep your teen safe and out of legal trouble while on the road.

5. Traffic Laws

Your teen can avoid many road hazards by following traffic laws, like driving the speed limit. Driving the speed limit may help your teen reduce hazards while driving. Driving over the speed limit can increase the chance of losing control of the vehicle.

Other traffic laws like running red lights and stop signs can also increase driving hazards. Our instructors teach your teen to follow these basic traffic laws. Some courses may overlook these basic laws because they seem too simple. We can teach your teen that these laws are put into place because they can lead to serious accidents.

6. Not Yielding

Not yielding to pedestrians, other vehicles, or cyclists can be dangerous. Our driving school gives key information about sharing the road. Your teen will learn about the dangers of not yielding properly. Failing to yield can increase the danger to your teen while driving.

7. Tailgate Dangers

Our driving course for teens teaches them the dangers of tailgating. Your teen can avoid certain hazards by avoiding driving too close behind another vehicle. Rear-end collisions are common and can be avoided by keeping a safe distance between cars. We teach your new driver what a safe distance is between their car and others.

8. Car Maintenance Issues

Our instructors teach your students about car maintenance and how it can help them avoid driving hazards. Your teen can avoid car issues by maintaining their vehicle properly. We can show them how checking their oil and tire pressure and keeping enough gas in the tank can help. Our driving instructors teach students about changing a tire and where to do it if they need additional help maintaining their car.

9. Road Hazards

Certain road hazards, like potholes, should be avoided while driving. Potholes can cause damage to your vehicle. We teach your new driver how to avoid road hazards that can damage their vehicle and potentially put them at risk. If certain road hazards are unavoidable, we can show them a safe way to handle them.
